For Kindergarten through 2nd grade:  SCOOP Lacrosse

SCOOP lacrosse is a developmental program for kindergarten through 2nd grade girls that teaches the fundamentals of lacrosse in a fun and positive environment.  SCOOP is a great way to learn the basic skills of lacrosse that are necessary for success as a player on a travel or club team.  Each SCOOP practice follows a lesson plan that teaches cradling, scooping, throwing, shooting and defense through fun drills and games.  The season ends with a Play Day of scrimmages.  SCOOP uses sticks with a larger plastic head and a softer ball which makes mastering catching and throwing easier.  No goggles or mouthguards are needed.  Each SCOOP team has 10-12 girls (grouped by grade level) and is led by 1-2 adult coaches and several high school or college lacrosse players.  SCOOP will meet on Saturday mornings from 8:30-9:30am at Donovan Field in Hamilton from April 27- June 1, rain date June 8.

Intermittently SCOOP offers a Pre-K program; if we get a big enough group of Pre-K girls whose parents feel that they are ready for organized sports and are able to follow instructions for an hour then we will have a Pre-K team.  Last year our Pre-K team was very successful.  Please reach out to Julie Smail if you have a Pre-K daughter that would be great for SCOOP.

For 2nd graders deciding between SCOOP and U9 travel team, we recommend that girls new to lacrosse start with SCOOP.  If your daughter is already comfortable with the basic skills of lacrosse and seems ready to move onto travel play then she may be appropriate for the U9 team.  SCOOP is an appropriate spot to start lacrosse but also a great place for girls already playing at a higher level to improve their skills which are so important at this stage.  Last year, we had a group of girls who played both SCOOP and U9 travel team.  If you have any questions about the difference between these 2 programs or you are not sure which one is right for your daughter, please contact Julie Smail at (scooplacrosse@outlook.com) or at 617-771-2894.
