GIRLS PROGRAM UPDATE - COVID-19

3.14.20

Dear MBGLL family. Please know that we want to ensure a safe spring lacrosse season.

MBGLL’s Board of Directors convened today to discuss the status of the upcoming girls’ youth lacrosse season. Before making a decision, we reviewed the latest available data surrounding COVID 19. We also took into account external factors such as federal and state mandates, school and field closures, and MIAA’s stance on this worldwide health issue. The MIAA is stating that they will suspend play until at least March 30, 2020. Many of our constituents’ schools are reopening sometime in late March.

MBGLL’s Board has decided to follow the MIAA guidelines and not make any changes to game dates at this time. March 30, 2020 is still a week earlier than the scheduled start of MBGLL’s spring season on April 5, 2020. MBGLL’s board will continue to monitor the situation closely and will reconvene the last weekend of March to again review the available data and determine whether or not we want to revise our spring season’s opening day. We want to ensure that we are making a sound decision about the season based on facts and data available in hopes that we are able to give every player the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits of participating in lacrosse both on and off of the field.

The MBGLL Board is asking all member town programs to follow local and state government mandates and guidelines regarding gatherings and the use of public space and fields in their towns. The board is strongly advising its member town programs TO CANCELL ALL in-person lacrosse activities through the end of March and reassess at that time based on information and guidelines at that time. This includes indoor and outdoor practices, team meetings, and any in-person gatherings.
